I began
basket-making in Somerset in 1976 at a time when
basket-making was at an all time low in England. I am
self-taught and of course because of that am still learning.
I like to think I've contributed in someway to the craft's
regeneration. I have researched, taught, worked, made
installations and received students worldwide.
My wife Judy and I moved to France 20 years ago and have
lived in a series of caves in the Loire Valley. I grow all
my own willows without the use of pesticides or herbicides
and I also collect chestnut, hazel, oak, acacia and alder
buckthorn from the forest nearby for basket-making. We also
have several gardens in which we grow all our fruit and
vegetables organically.
